Chain Link Fencing

Posted on June 24, 2011 at 7:17 PM

Building a great looking chain link fence is not easy. While they can work well and blend into the environment they are easy to go wrong with. Often giving the property an industrial look. (Not such a problem if it is actually an industrial property). One of the reasons for the chain link fences popularity is the fact that it is both relatively inexpensive and also fast to install. The other reason is why they are so popular on industrial properties. They are very good at keeping people out.

So how do you make this inexpensive and easy to build fence look a little nicer? One way is to coat it with PVC. This can be found in many different colors. These can either blend the fence into its natural environment. Or alternatively they can give a little life to the fence and brighten it up.

The Chain link fence comes in an array of both mesh sizes and gauges. The gauge is the thickness of the wire woven together which constructs the chain link fabric. If a smaller gauge is employed in the weaving process then the wire will be thicker. As a consequence the fence will also be stronger. A typical gauge for a residential fence is 11.5 gauge.

The space between the wires is referred to as the mesh size. If the hole between the mesh is smaller, more wire has been used in the construction of fence and as a consequence it is stronger. A smaller space also makes it more difficult for people to climb and thus improves its function as a security barrier. The most common mesh sizes are around 2 inch.
